DEPARTMENT HEAD
Dr. Md. Asaduzzaman Shishir Associate Professor & Chairman asaduzzaman.mbio@diu.ac
Greetings from the enigmatic world of microorganisms. Numerous times, microscopic organisms have penned the world's history. More than 95% of the microorganisms are helpful, whereas a very tiny percentage are dangerous. Microbes have incredibly basic yet intricate lives. microorganisms are ubiquitous and have interactions with nearly everything, including other microorganisms, the environment, humans, animals, and plants. Without microbes, it is impossible for us to imagine a day or a planet in which we do not exist. Unlike the butterfly effect, which might just be a myth, the microbial effect is an established fact of life on Earth.
The world has figured out how to deal with these microorganisms and use their power for global benefit. It's now your turn to become knowledgeable, adept, and creative in order to both gain from and avoid the negative effects of microorganisms. The department of Microbiology at Dhaka International University offers you with quality education, the laboratory facilities and research opportunities to establish yourself as a genuine microbiologist. We will be delighted to see you as a member of our stimulating and demanding community as you look for chances to develop into the next generation of microbiologists.

SYLLABUS
The Microbiology Undergraduate Program, which confers a B.Sc. Honours degree, prepares students for a career in science by expanding their knowledge of microbiology and developing their ability to think critically and creatively. The academic program emphasizes an in-depth study of the field encompassing Basic and advanced Microbiology, Human Physiology, Chemistry, Fundamental Biochemistry, Mycology, Enzymes and Bioenergetics, Molecular and Cell Biology, Basic and advanced Virology, Basic and advanced Immunology, Environmental- Agricultural- Medical- Industrial- Pharmaceutical- Clinical and Diagnostic Microbiology, Epidemiology, Genomics and Bioinformatics, Fermentation Technology, Food Microbiology and Microbial Metabolism. The program bestows a strong preparation for an academic and teaching career, or a microbiological research career at both the fundamental and applied levels in private, governmental or industrial laboratories. We believe that our program provides an excellent environment for undergraduate study in microbiology by combining the facilities, quality and breadth of research of a larger university with close student-faculty interaction, and an interdisciplinary exchange of ideas usually found only in an ideal institution.
- Duration of the program: Years: 4 Semesters: 8
- Admission Requirements:
- The student must have a minimum second class or GPA of 2.5 or equivalent grade in each stage of SSC and HSC or equivalent public examination. However, if the minimum GPA is 2.0 in one of the exams, then the total GPA in both the exams must be at least 6.0.
- There must be a minimum of five subjects in O-level examination and at least two subjects in A-level examination. Among these seven subjects, at least four subjects must have B grade or GPA of 4.0 and the other three subjects must have a C grade or GPA of 3.5.
- Freedom fighter children will be considered eligible for admission if they have a total GPA of 5.0 in SSC and HSC or equivalent public examinations.
- In case of student admission in Microbiology, if the total GPA in SSC and HSC examinations is below 6, then Dean / Chairman / Faculty of the departments will arrange oral examination and student can be admitted after getting a recommendation from them.
- Student will be admitted in B.Sc. program, if student has a break of study up to 2 years. If any student has a break study longer than this period, student can be admitted with permission of the authority.
- In case of re-admission, at least one semester has to be completed and transcript of the previous semester has to be submitted. Otherwise, he will have to be admitted again.
- Admission committee checks the eligibility of the candidates. If candidates are eligible for admission in B.Sc. in Microbiology program, then students can admit provisionally. Information of respective students is transferred to the academic committee. After approval from academic committee the admission of prospective students is confirmed.
- Total minimum credit requirement to complete the program: 157.00 Credits.
- Total class weeks in a Year/semester: 14 weeks.
- Minimum CGPA requirements for graduation: 2.50.
- Maximum academic years of completion: 4 years + 3 years.
